When Her Majesty the Queen was crowned in 1952, as part of the ceremony she was presented with a Bible, with these words:
Our gracious Queen:
to keep your Majesty ever mindful of the law and the Gospel of God
as the Rule for the whole life and government of Christian Princes,
we present you with this Book,
the most valuable thing that this world affords.
Here is Wisdom;
This is the royal Law;
These are the lively Oracles of God.
The most valuable, precious thing in the world. That is the Bible. This Sunday in Christ Church we will listen together to 2 Peter 1:12-21, and see why the Bible is such a unique, wonderful book. Two weeks ago, we began our series on 2 Peter, and saw that it was written to a church that was in danger from false teaching that was undermining and destabilizing the church. This Sunday we look at how a church is kept stable and safe.
I wonder how much we value the Bible? Have look at this video. It shows the Kimyal tribe of Irian Jaya receiving the first ever Bibles in their own language. For them, it really is the most precious thing in the world.
