What is the World Misson Focus?

The work of the Mission Interest Group at Christ Church is driven by our belief that there is one global Church, united by “one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all” (Eph. 4:5-6). Divisions by nationality, social status or denomination – despite their present reality – are meaningless and irrelevant in Christ Jesus: all are one in Him (Gal. 3:28). For this reason, the Church is united both in suffering and in rejoicing (1 Cor. 12:26).

Every two months we will choose one country which will be the focus of our attention during the following weeks. We will hand out information and prayer resources to groups and individuals at Christ Church. Our goal is to inform people about missions in general and the work of our mission partners in particular. We would like to share stories of the lives of our brothers and sisters around the world and encourage prayer on their behalf. It is our sincere wish to see Christ Church united in support and prayer for missions and the global Church.

Welcome to our Prayer Meeting

Roshan is leading once a month the Prayer Meeting of Christ Church to support its ministry. It is held in the Barnabas room on the church grounds and everyone who likes to join is welcome. Next on: Sunday, the 18th of March 2012 at 9.30am. It’s planned to be held on every 3rd Sunday of the month [tba here in the NEWS/Diary or in the service's notices]. There is time for spoken and silent prayers. We pray for the members of the congregation and their families as well as for the world and raising issues.

If you can’t attend yourself you can also drop us an informal prayer request wether via prayers[at]christchurchanglican.de or the prayer box in the back of the church. The partakers agree that confidentiality is essential!

Women's World Day of Prayer - 2 Mar 5pm

On the first Friday in March we have the “Day of Prayer” and the country who is preparing the relevant material is Malaysia.

The theme is “Let Justice Prevail”. We have again the opportunity to take part in the Day of Prayer at the Ev. Tersteegenkirche in Duesseldorf-Golzheim. If we take part the service will be in German/English. If you are interested in not only taking part but even doing a reading please let me know either by phone 01721797812 or mail wolfgang.moehring[at]christchurchanglican.de the latest by the end of January 2012.

There will be a shared lunch served after the service next Sunday, 5th February. Pasta, rice & bread will be provided. Please bring meat or vegetarian sauces to serve with pasta or rice, salad or dessert.

Service for Christian Unity - 20 Jan 6.30pm

At least once a year many Christians become aware of the great diversity of ways of adoring God. Hearts are touched, and people realize that their neighbours’ ways are not so strange.

The event that touches off this special experience is something called the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Traditionally celebrated between 18-25 January the Week of Prayer enters into congregations and parishes all over the world. Pulpits are exchanged, and special ecumenical worship services are arranged.

The ecumenical service for Duesseldorf will be held at St Lambertus Church in the Altstadt on 20 January 2012 @ 18:30. Theme for 2012: “We will all be changed by the victory of our Lord Jesus Christ” (cf. 1 Cor 15:51-58)

Love and Acceptance

‘Acceptance’ is a popular word today, and rightly so. Theologically, God’s acceptance of us is quite a good contemporary term for justification. But we should be cautious about modern talk of ‘unconditional acceptance’, as when the concept of an ‘open church’ is canvassed, in which membership is offered to everybody, with no questions asked and no conditions laid down. For though God’s love is indeed unconditional, his acceptance of us is not, since it depends on our repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. We need to bear this in mind when we consider that we are to accept the weak (Rom. 14:1) since ‘God has accepted him’ (14:3), and to accept one another ‘just as Christ accepted’ us (15:7).

Advent Market – 3rd December 2011

The Christ Church Advent Market will be held this year on Saturday, 3rd December 13.00-17.00. I will be asking lots of people for help with various jobs over the next weeks!

Donations of good quality items to sell e.g. toys, gifts, books, DVDs / CDs. Please bring them in any Sunday between now and the market.
People to help set up before and after the Advent Market
People to run stalls on the day
People to bake cakes and make savouries for the cafe
People to work in the cafe
People to go shopping to get stock for our extremely popular British groceries stall.

If you are going over to the UK between now and the end of November, especially if you are going by car, and could get some things from the list, please let me know.
