Welcome to the Christ Church Blog

“Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord”. 2 Peter 1:2

Those are the words of the Holy Spirit, speaking through the Apostle Simon Peter, in the Bible. And they are my wish for you in this, the first post on the Christ Church Düsseldorf pastor’s blog. This will be a source of information and news on what is happening at Christ Church, and also a space for reflections and thoughts on the Bible, and what it means to follow Christ in the 21st century. Please come back and read it regularly, especially if you are a member of Christ Church.

On Sundays during September and early October, we will be listening to 2 Peter, and the two little letters of 2 John and 3 John, with an excursion into the Old Testament. The schedule is as follows:

August 27- 2 Peter 1:1-11

September 3- 2 Kings 22

September 10- 2 Peter 1:12-21

September 17- 2 Peter 2:1-22

September 25- 2 Peter 3:1-18

October 1- Harvest Service

October 8- 2 John and 3 John

These books of the Bible all deal with the same deadly danger, that faces this and every church: false teaching. When lies are taught within a church, they poison it, and destroy our knowledge of God. The knowledge of God is what Peter wanted his readers to have and to grow in; for the better they knew God, the more grace and peace they would know. And so he urged them not to sit still and not be armchair Christians, but to grow, as to their faith they added virtue, and knowledge, and self-control, and perseverance, and godliness, and mutual affection, and love (1:5-8). If someone is growing in those qualities, the lies of false teachers will have no appeal to them. As we read 2 Peter in the next month, may we grow to know God more, and grow more like him.
